Flight of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner

We created paintings yesterday inspired by Flight of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner.

 Don't they look great?

Art inspired by Flight of the Valkyries (Richard Wagner) on PhotoPeach

Click on the slideshow to go to the website where you can hear it with the music playing in the background (to get the full effect!).

Ár gCéilí Mór

Bhí céilí mór againn inniu. Chan gach rang amhrán agus rinneamar roinnt damhsa freisin. Bhí sé iontach ar fad agus bhaineamar a lán lán taitneamh as! Féach ar ár bhfís anseo!

The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson

Today in music we were listening to 'The Typewriter' by Leroy Anderson. Some of us weren't too sure what a typewriter was so we watched an animation of the music to see what it was.

Here, you can see a real orchestra playing the piece.

Keeping the Beat (A Recount!)

Today in music, we were focussing on keeping the beat with instruments.

First we practised by pointing at the pictures showing the beat.

Then we clapped along to the music.

Finally we did it with the instruments.

We enjoy this kind of music class!

Little Red Hen

We watched a video today of the Little Red Hen and we looked for differences between this version and the first story we read.

Flight of the Bumblebee

Today in music we were listening to Flight of the Bumblebee. The music was really fast and swirly - like a bumble bee flying around. We also watched this video of Minnie Mouse conducting this piece. It was funny!

Frosty the Snowman!

We are learning the song Frosty the Snowman for the winter concert! It's all about a snowman that comes to life so it's perfect for winter time!

There are a lot of words to remember so you can practise it here at home!

Arts Week Compositions

As part of our homework for arts week, we composed our own songs.

We were able to either use the music from a song we knew and create new lyrics or completely make up our own song. Here are our wonderful compositions!

Little Music Makers

During arts week, the senior infants were lucky enough to have workshop with Maria from Little Music Makers. We got to practise our singing, keeping rhythm and even playing instruments like a real orchestra! It was great fun!

We are Composers!

Today we were composers! We all played an instrument to create a piece of music representing a storm. There was rain, wind, thunder and lightning. It got louder and louder (forte) and then, when the storm calmed, the music got softer (piano). When we were finished, we listened to the music back and created a score to represent it. A score is a special way of writing down music so that others can copy your music if they want to. Here are our video and score!

Arts Week!

Today was the first day of Arts Week! This is a week where we focus on all the arts subjects - music, visual art and drama! We planned the Alphabet book we're going to make, made some bird feeders to feed the birds on these wintery days, planned how we are going to paint our glass shakers and listened and responded to 'March Past of the Kitchen Utensils' by Vaughan Williams. You can listen to it again here!

The Rights Factor!

Today we did our performance for the Rights Factor!  This is always one of the highlights of Human Rights Month and this year was no different!  Check out our wonderful singing below!  The song is based upon the book 'Whoever You Are' by Mem Fox that we read in the first week.  We've learned a lot about human rights and equality since then! :-)

Senior Infant Orchestra!

We had our very own orchestra in class today! Everyone got an instrument and we all had to keep a steady beat with the music. Some people got it straight away, others need a little bit more practice but everyone had great fun with the instruments!

The Syncopated Clock

We listened to The Syncopated Clock by Leroy Anderson today! Can you spot the times when the clock is ticking and when it goes asleep?
